For a fast bowler, nothing is more satisfying than the crack of an uprooted stump. Such was the case in the clash between Birmingham Phoenix and Northern Superchargers at Edgbaston where Tim Southee delivered an unplayable delivery that led to Ben Stokes’ departure for a golden duck.

Harry Brook's decision to bat first at Edgbaston didn’t bode well for the Superchargers as Tim Southee struck early and dismissed Matt Short on the sixth delivery. Nicholas Pooran's arrival brought a brief surge of hope with a colossal six, but his tenure was short-lived too. The Caribbean star fell to Adam Milne on the 18th delivery, and the situation worsened when his ally Southee scalped Ben Stokes with a blistering delivery.

On the 21st delivery, the New Zealand veteran bowled a good length ball to the English red-ball skipper. The white rock pitched around the fourth stump area as Stokes aimed to defend the well-directed delivery. However, the ball swung in sharply and sneaked past Stokes' bat's inside edge to hit the top of the off stump. The southpaw was completely taken aback by Southee’s mastery, as this was far from the outing he desired as an opener. With a golden duck, Stokes trudged back to the pavilion, while the Twitterverse and the Phoenix contingent lauded Southee’s magic.
