The cricketing arena has witnessed several iconic moments and the 2024 T20 World Cup was centerstage to one of them. In an enthralling clash between Australia and Afghanistan, Marcus Stoinis indulged in a sledging battle with Rahmanullah Gurbaz and ended up with the last laugh in Antigua.

Electing to field first after winning the toss, Mitch Marsh named Ashton Agar as a tactical replacement for Mitchell Starc. The move didn’t quite pay dividends to the Aussies as Afghan openers, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran stitched a mammoth 118 runs partnership before the former exchanged words with Marcus Stoinis and lost his wicket.

On a tricky surface with some extra bounce on offer, Gurbaz and Ibrahim mixed caution with aggression to hold the forte against the Aussie attack. The second ball of the 15th over saw a length delivery keeping low at Gurbaz that the keeper-batter nudged around before the bowler stared down and exchanged words with him. In the next ball, the batter smacked an off-cutter on a good length over the deep mid wicket region for a six, giving a fitting reply to the all-rounder. However, in a couple of balls, Gurbaz ended up trudging back to the dressing room after miscuing a heave off a good length straight down to deep square leg fielder. Soon after, Stoinis was seen giving a fiery send-off with flapping hands and gesturing Gurbaz to walk towards the dressing room. The Twitterverse closely followed this incident and here’s how they reacted to it:
