In a cricket-loving nation like India, cricketers are worshipped more like superheroes than athletes. Indian all-rounder Axar Patel further embodied the idea by completing a one-handed screamer, whose reflex resembled more like Spiderman as India squared off against Australia in St Lucia.

What seemed like a virtual knockout for the Australian side, luck favoured captain Mitchell Marsh during the toss and he opted to field first. Despite enforcing an early blow in Virat Kohli, a Rohit Sharma blitzkrieg took centerstage with the Indian middle order propelling the Asian side to 205/5 in 20 overs. In reply, the Aussies got a similar start to their counterparts before Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head stabilised the stage with an 81-run stand. With India eyeing a breakthrough, Axar’s spidey-like reflex at the ropes came in handy at the cusp of the ninth over.

Having conceded just four runs in the first five deliveries, Marsh looked to ease down the pressure by attempting a heave of a length ball into the pads. The connection off the willow seemed almost perfect before the breeze played a part and slowed down the ball’s pace down the boundary ropes. Axar, waiting at the deep judged the elevation well and leaped to grasp the white rock with his non-dominant right hand. The all-rounder picked it out of thin air in a manner where his body seemed a bit bent and the white cherry went on to stick to the palm. Having already dropped Marsh twice in the innings, this effort was much-needed for the Men in Blue, and hence the Twitterverse exploded.
