Royal Challengers Bengaluru extend their winning streak to three matches after beating Gujarat Titans in the reverse fixture by four wickets. A commendable bowling act reduced GT to 147 followed by Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis’ flying start setting up a stellar victory in Chinnaswamy.

Brief Scores: GT: 147 [Shahrukh: 37, Tewatia: 35; Dayal: 4-0-21-2] lost to RCB: 152/6 [ Faf: 64, Kohli: 42; Little: 4-0-45-4] by four wickets.

Faf du Plessis’ decision to bowl first after winning the toss was backed up well by the bowlers as Mohammed Siraj removed Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill, followed by Cameron Green outwitting Sai Sudharsan to sum up a 23 runs powerplay. Shahrukh Khan and David Miller stabilized the stage after the lowest powerplay of the season to stitch a 61-run stand calculative-ly before Karn Sharma outsmarted David Miller in the 12th over. Shahrukh departed in the next over before Rashid Khan and Rahul Tewatia added impactful contributions before Yash Dayal removed both in the 18th over with the score reading 136/7. Although Siraj conceded eleven runs in the 19th over, a team hat-trick followed in the next over to reduce them to 147 in 20 overs.

In response, GT’s decision to use Mohit Sharma with the new ball backfired as he conceded 32 runs in two overs including two sixes from Kohli in the first over. With Josh Little leaking 20 runs in his first over, RCB headed towards an aggressive start and du Plessis racing to a fifty in just 18 balls led to a 92-run powerplay. However, the South African was dismissed by Joshua Little in the sixth over for a 23-ball 64. Will Jacks followed suit in the next over with Little removing Rajat Patidar and Glenn Maxwell holing it in the deep in the following over. As Cameron Green and Kohli departed in the tenth and eleventh over, RCB’s score dropped to 117/6 in eleven overs from 92/1 in six. Unbothered by the sudden setbacks, Dinesh Karthik assaulted to add 16 runs to the tally off Rashid Khan, followed by a ten-run 13th over. With five needed off the last seven overs, Swapnil Singh smacked Rashid Khan down the ground after three runs off as many deliveries to seal the deal with 38 balls to spare.

Changes are necessary but not all amendments are bound to yield positive results. A similar happened with the Gujarat Titans as the ploy to bring Vijay Shankar as an impact substitute failed to cultivate desirable results as RCB squared off against GT in the Chinnaswamy on Saturday.
