Delhi Capitals beat Lucknow Super Giants by 19 runs and to keep their playoffs hope alive, owing to mathematical possibilities. Fifties from Abishek Porel and Tristan Stubbs helped them post 208 while Ishant’s three-fer with the new ball made things tough for LSG, leaving playoff hopes tougher.

DC: 208/4 [Porel: 58, Stubbs: 57*; Naveen: 4-0-51-2] beat LSG: 189/9  [Pooran: 61, Arshad: 58*; Ishant: 4-0-34-3] by 19 runs

Despite losing the toss, the Capitals were favoured with their thought process to bat first. Although Jake Fraser-McGurk departed for a silver duck, Abishek Porel and Shai Hope played their natural game with the former assaulting the opposition bowlers to sum up a 73 runs powerplay. However, the visitors varied the pace wittily to induce dots regularly and outsmarted Hope and Porel with the score reading 115/3 in 12 overs. Subsequently, Rishabh Pant and Tristan Stubbs added 47 runs together before the former’s scratchy 33 came to an end in the 17th over. With 175/4 in 18 overs, Tristan Stubbs accelerated in the last couple of overs and chalked up 25-ball 57 to help DC post 208/4 in 20 overs.

In response, Ishant Sharma blew hot with the ball removing KL Rahul, Quinton de Kock, and Deepak Hooda in his first spell coupled with Axar Patel outwitting Marcus Stoinis, leaving LSG languishing at 44/4 in 4.1 overs. Unfettered by the early blows, Nicholas Pooran’s lusty blows took the visitors to 59 inside the powerplay followed by Ayush Badoni holing out in the deep off Tristan Stubbs in the eighth over. With Pooran’s quick knock of 27-ball 61 concluding in the twelfth over, LSG’s winning hopes almost subsided before Arshad Khan’s lusty blows kept the visitors in the hunt. The southpaw helped LSG extract 45 runs between overs 16-18 before Mukesh Kumar’s six-run 19th over reduced the equation to 23 off the last over against Arshad, who already etched his maiden fifty. Rasikh Dar ended up conceding just three off the final over to keep the Capitals breathing due to mathematical possibilities.
