When the pressure is high, players must be cautious to avoid playing reckless shots that could lead to their downfall. Such was the case with Rishabh Pant on the third day of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Perth, where his reckless shot resulted in his dismissal as Nathan Lyon capitalised his skills.

After a stellar performance from KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal, India remained in firm control on the third day, extending their lead. The pair put together a solid 201-run partnership, frustrating the Australian bowlers on the slow Perth pitch. However, India’s momentum stalled as Jaiswal and Devdutt Padikkal were dismissed in quick succession. With hopes resting on Rishabh Pant, he failed to deliver, falling to a reckless shot that saw him dismissed cheaply.

On the first delivery of the 96th over, Lyon bowled a flighted delivery wide outside the off stump. Rishabh Pant, intent on stepping down the track and attacking, went for the shot but was well outside the reach of the ball. He failed to get to the pitch of it, was beaten on the outside edge, and lost his balance, tumbling off the pitch. The ball flew straight to Alex Carey, who swiftly collected it and broke the stumps. Twitter erupted in disbelief at Pant's reckless approach, as he gifted his wicket away and was dismissed for just one run.
