‌BCCI to announce Test squad for Bangladesh series after Duleep Trophy first round

The Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) in India is yet to announce the squad for the two-match Test series against Bangladesh starting September 19. As per an ESPNcricinfo report, the squad might be publicly revealed only after the first round of the Duleep Trophy, starting September 5.

The Duleep Trophy will consist of four teams - India A, India B, India C, and India D - set to square off in a round-robin structure with no knockouts. Plenty of capped and uncapped Indians will take part with Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Abhimanyu Easwaran, and Shreyas Iyer leading the sides. Players such as Rajat Patidar, R Sai Kishore, Ishan Kishan, Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel, KL Rahul, Kuldeep Yadav, Akash Deep, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, Mukesh Kumar, Shreyas Iyer, Arshdeep Singh, B Sai Sudharsan, Abishek Porel, Devdutt Padikkal, Saurabh Kumar, and KS Bharat, among others will be in action. 

India last played a Test match against England in February-March where the Men in Blue under coach Rahul Dravid’s stewardship and Rohit Sharma’s captain, drubbed the Three Lions 4-1. They are set to resume the World Test Championship proceedings against the Bangladesh side that whitewashed Pakistan 2-0 at their home this week. The MA. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai will be hosting the first Test while the Green Park Stadium, Kanpur will stage the second game of the series before the Asian sides engage in a three-match t20I series. 

India have a busy season ahead with New Zealand touring in October for three Tests and as many T20Is until October 12. Subsequently, they’ll travel South Africa for five white ball games followed by the Border Gavaskar Trophy in Australia.

Currently, the Men in Blue are situated at the pole of the WTC 2023-25 points table with 68.52 percentage points. Meanwhile, their forthcoming opponents Bangladesh have surged up to the fourth position with 45.83  percentage points. For the newly appointed India coach Gautam Gambhir, this will be the first assignment with the red-ball side.
