The England Cricket Team have announced three debutants including Jamie Overton, Jordan Cox, and Jacob Bethell for the first T20I against Australia. In the absence of Jos Buttler, fellow Lancashire, Phil Salt will be wearing the captaincy hat tomorrow at the Rose Bowl, Southampton.

The Three Lions have announced their playing XI with a lot of fresh faces being a part of the setup for the first of the three-match T20I series against Australia. Bethell impressed with 166 runs from 9 innings for the Birmingham Phoenix at the Men’s Hundred. His attacking approach lower down the order makes him a great potential for the future. Jamie has been on the radar of the national selectors for some time after his all-round brilliance in the domestic setup. Also, Cox stockpiled 2598 runs in 113 innings at an impressive strike rate of 138.85 in his T20 career.

As Buttler rehabilitates from an injury sustained during the practice sessions of Manchester Originals for the Men’s Hundred 2024, Salt will be leading the men’s national team for the first time. Sam Curran was yet another contender for deputy, given his experience with the Surrey side.

Will Jacks, Liam Livingstone, Adil Rashid, Jofra Archer, Sam Curran, Reece Topley and Salt retained their spot from the T20 World Cup squad. However, Saqib Mahmood makes his return to the national community after recovering from an injury. He last represented the side against West Indies in January 2022. With Marcus Trescothick opting for a rest from his position as interim head coach, Andre Flintoff will be a part of the backroom staff. England will be playing three T20Is and five ODIs against Australia, with the caravan shifting to Cardiff and Manchester after the first T20I

England playing XI for 1st T20I: Phil Salt (c/wk), Will Jacks, Jordan Cox, Liam Livingstone, Jacob Bethell, Sam Curran, Jamie Overton, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, Saqib Mahmood, Reece Topley.
