Rishabh Pant is set to don the Delhi Capitals jersey once again, as the franchise has confirmed him as their top retention for the upcoming IPL edition. This announcement comes amid swirling rumours about his future with the team, including alleged disagreements regarding his retention fees.

‌According to a report by Cricbuzz, the recent development regarding Rishabh Pant's retention came after a meeting between Delhi Capitals owner Parth Jindal and the wicketkeeper-batter. This decision was announced on the same day Pant scored a stunning century in the ongoing Test match against Bangladesh in Chennai. The report also dispels rumours of disagreements over retention fees, which had raised concerns about his future with the franchise.

While Pant was previously in the INR 16 crore bracket for the Capitals during the 2022-24 cycle, his salary is expected to increase based on the total purse amount. Retained as captain in the latter half of IPL 2021 after replacing Shreyas Iyer, he is seen as the franchise's future. It appears the 2020 finalists are moving forward with that vision by retaining him ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Furthermore, the report suggests that if the BCCI allows for five retentions, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav will follow Pant as the second and third retentions. Jake Fraser-McGurk and Tristan Stubbs are expected to be the two overseas picks. If a sixth retention option for uncapped players is allowed, Abishek Porel, who made a strong impression in IPL 2024, is likely to be retained.

In IPL 2024, Pant scored 446 runs in 13 matches with an impressive strike rate of 155. As the all-time leading run-scorer for the franchise with a total of 3,284 runs, his performance further solidifies his value to the team.
