Habits are an integral part of human nature, but sometimes they can lead to downfall. Virat Kohli’s obsession with playing deliveries outside the off stump once again proved costly, as he was dismissed similarly on the second day of the Sydney Test off Scott Boland’s delivery outside the off stump.

‌Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna shone on the second day taking three wickets each to bundle out Australia for 185 runs and leaving them trailing by four runs. In response, India’s second innings got off to a strong start after tea, with openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul playing an attacking brand of cricket, taking the score to 39/0 in seven overs. However, Scott Boland, continuing his fine form from the first innings, struck in the eighth over to dismiss Rahul, before removing Jaiswal in the 10th. Boland’s dominance continued as he sent Virat Kohli back with a delivery outside the off stump.

On the first ball of the 14th over, Scott Boland bowled a short of a good length delivery outside off that nipped away slightly. Virat Kohli, unable to resist the temptation, poked at it and edged it straight to Steve Smith at second slip, who made no mistake. Realizing his error, Kohli smashed his bat on his pad as he trudged off the ground, visibly frustrated. This marked the eighth time in the series that Kohli was dismissed similarly, and the Twitterverse was quick to react, expressing disbelief at his repeated mistake.
