The T20 World Cup is getting so intense, that it is all over the headlines. But even in this phase, there is one person who could take up all the attention of the tournament, and that is Virat Kohli. Although he retired from the T20I format, the King recently returned to India for the IPL preparations.

Those who have been watching the T20 World Cup for a long time, know that there is something missing in this tournament. And it is the legendary duo of the Indian cricket team, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. While the tournament has been intense, every game involving the Indian team feels to have something less as the two legends are not there.

With its intense clashes, the T20 World Cup has been able to take up the hype of the game. But the hype which was in the tournament’s favour seems to have faded now. And it is all possible due to the King, Virat Kohli. As the IPL 2026 comes closer, Kohli is now back in India as he gets ready to join the RCB camp.

Kohli Lands in Mumbai

The Indian team is currently busy playing the T20 World Cup. On the other hand, players who have retired or are not a part of the team have started their preparations for the IPL 2026. Since the tournament will be taking place right after the T20 World Cup, the teams have also started their camps for the same.

Virat Kohli has recently landed in Mumbai, as he was spotted by the fans at the Mumbai Airport. After a long time, fans also encountered Virat Kohli in a friendly way, as he invited them to click selfies with him if they wanted. In the viral video. Kohli was seen saying, “Aao bhai, kaun hai photo wala?”

Several fans lined up to take a photo with the greatest of the modern generation. Kohli's light hearted gesture has also started to win hearts, as fans wonder what was the reason for his much early arrival in the country. There are also chances that he might have visited the country to watch one of India's games in the T20 World Cup.

Kohli's IPL 2025 Campaign

Season 18 came out to be lucky for Number 18, as Virat Kohli ended his wait to win an IPL title. He has been a part of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru team ever since the tournament started back in 2008. But till 2024, he had his team reach three finals but never over the last game to get their hands on the title.

Virat Kohli in IPL 2025:

  • Innings: 15
  • Not Out: 3
  • Runs: 657
  • Average: 54.75
  • Strike Rate: 144.71
  • 100s: 0
  • 50s: 8

Despite giving his best as a player and captain both, RCB fell short to win the title. But it all changed in season 18, when Rajat Patidar took the captaincy of the team. After a long wait, RCB was able to win the final match and eventually open their trophy cabinet in the Indian Premier League.

In the final clash, he went on to score 43 runs for the team and also remained the top run scorer for them. His runs played a vital role for RCB to win the title, and it even made the fans remember his contribution in the Champions Trophy 2013 final. He scored the same amount of runs in that game, and India went on to win the title.

Since RCB had won the final last time, they will be entering the next season as the defending champions. It will be for the first time that RCB is defending their title. And all eyes will lie on the King, as he takes the centre stage for RCB, returning to action in the T20 format after IPL 2025 final.

IPL Legacy

Virat Kohli holds his own legacy in the Indian Premier League. Just like in every other format, he also ends up breaking several records in the IPL and getting them to his own name. Since several fans are claiming that 2026 is the new 2016, there are chances that we could see Kohli back in his prime form again.

Virat Kohli in IPL:

  • Innings: 259
  • Not Out: 40
  • Runs: 8661
  • Average: 39.54
  • Strike Rate: 132.85
  • 100s: 8
  • 50s: 63

Back in IPL 2016, he had his best season but was not able to get RCB their maiden title. With 973 runs in that season, it has been almost a decade but no player has been able to break the record set by him. Jos Buttler and Shubman Gill came close to the record, but they were not able to breach the same. And now, with Kohli shining well, it is expected that he will break his record on his own.
