Mumbai Indians made their comeback in the IPL but it happened without their skipper. Amidst this, Wasim Jaffer, former Indian cricketer, talked about the issues which are persisting in the MI setup. He also backed Hardik Pandya's captaincy in the recent games.

Mumbai Indians faced a lot of questions even after its comeback in the match against Lucknow Super Giants. Hardik Pandya suffered with an injury right before this game, which also opened ways for Rohit Sharma to make his return from the injury. But questions still prevail around the captaincy issues which are persisting in the team.

Suryakumar Yadav, India's T20I captain, was handed over the captaincy in place of Hardik Pandya in the last game. After the match, Wasim Jaffer took it to his YouTube channel, and talked about the team's performances and management issues. He said, “All these decisions are taken after the tournament. Nobody thinks about it mid-tournament. Mumbai Indians' journey is alive just mathematically; they are also almost out of the tournament.”

Jaffer also backed the captaincy of Hardik Pandya to some extent. He said, “They have underperformed, but you cannot say that this team played badly because of Hardik Pandya. Individual players also have not played well, and there have been injury issues as well. Rohit got injured at the wrong time, and Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, and Trent Boult struggled for form.”

Our Take

Wasim Jaffer has made a bold statement on the MI management, as he even backed Hardik Pandya as the captain. Surely Mumbai Indians had a lot of tough players in their line-up, but the majority of them have not been able to do well in this tournament. Players such as Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult, and Suryakumar Yadav struggled to find their form, which had caused some challenges for the team to grab wins.
