Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has admitted that his side will eliminate Liverpool if the two sides are drawn together for the Champions League round of 16. The draw takes place on Monday with both Liverpool and Real Madrid cruising through the group stages despite not being at their very best.

The two sides met each other in the 2018 final, with Real Madrid walking away as 3-1 winners on the night but Liverpool eventually got their comeuppance last season. The Reds reached their second consecutive final beating Tottenham 2-0 in Madrid with the Los Blancos eliminated by Ajax in the round of 16. But with both sides cruising through the group stages despite not being at their very best with Liverpool finishing first in their group and Real Madrid finished second.

But with the Los Blancos being the second seeds, it will see them drawn against other group winners which includes Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Juventus, RB Leipzig, and Liverpool. However, the potential rematch against Liverpool doesn’t concern Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane with the Frenchman admitting that if they play Liverpool, then they will eliminate them.

"If we play Liverpool, we will eliminate them. We can't do anything about the draw,” he said reported Goal.

The Los Blancos, much like Liverpool, cruised through their group stage clashes with them far from perfect against PSG, Club Brugge or even Galatasaray. It meant that they finished their six group stage games with three wins, two draws and a loss to PSG. However, despite their performances, Zidane went on to insist that he was more than happy with the way his side had played.

"We were delighted with this win, mostly because we put in a serious performance. I'm satisfied with the guys I chose and what they produced. I reckon we deserved the three points because we were very effective in front of goal. Club Brugge had their merits, but we dominated the second half,” he added.
