Atletico Madrid are still looking to improve their team, with the club heavily linked with a move for Real Madrid star James Rodriguez. The 28-year-old returned after a two-year loan spell with Bayern Munich, only to find that there is no place for him at Real Madrid, with the club looking to sell.

There was once a time in the not so distant past that Christian Eriksen was being heavily linked with a move to Atletico Madrid. The move made sense as the Dane has just one year left on his current deal and thus should come with a relatively cheap transfer tag. But that hasn’t been the case with Tottenham looking to get a heavy profit has placed a £70 million tag on the 28 year old.

That has seen Atletico Madrid shift gears and change their target to James Rodriguez, with the Colombian star now heavily linked with a move to his cross-city rivals. Marca has reported that the former Bayern Munich man is amongst Atletico Madrid’s top targets as he would cost less than £50 million, as Real Madrid, look to balance their books.

The Los Blancos have had a good transfer window so far, spending north of £300 million on new additions and now need to adhere to financial fair play rules. That should see them get a few names off their books with Gareth Bale, Isco Alarcon, and James Rodriguez amongst the many names linked with a move away.

The Colombian midfield maestro has also been linked with a move to Napoli but Atletico Madrid lead the race and are in the prime position to give the 28 year old a second chance in Madrid.
