Reports | Neymar’s father tried to force Real Madrid move on deadline day
Brazilian superstar Neymar is set to stay at PSG for this season at least, but his father started talks with Real Madrid immediately after it was made sure that the move to Barcelona had been called off. However, Neymar himself has shown no interest in moving to the Santiago Bernabeu.
According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Neymar Sr. tried his best to salvage a move to Real Madrid for his son, as he soon as he learnt that the move to Barcelona was off. However, last-minute coaxing from the superstar’s father did not help and now it seems that Neymar is prepared to stay at the French capital, at least for another season.
Throughout the summer, speculation had been rife that the world’s most expensive player was set to rejoin Barcelona, but the talks failed as the clubs could not come to a conclusion over the Brazilian’s valuation. The Blaugrana had offered a plethora of different players, but the French champions did not find any of the offerings match their valuation of the 27-year-old.
Barcelona’s fellow La Liga giants Real Madrid have also been interested in the Brazilian international, but were wary over his injury record and also his ability to stay fit for an entire season. The Los Blancos only wanted the player on loan, considering the fact that signing Neymar on a permanent deal comes at an enormous cost of approximately 500 million euros.
Moreover, Real Madrid had already spent a plethora of money in the summer transfer window, while failing to offload unwanted players. That reduced their financial clout - preventing a move for Paul Pogba - along with the risk of attracting potential sanctions regarding Financial Fair Play, so no new deals were conducted.
