Reports | Manchester City pushing for a new Leroy Sane contract
Manchester City are trying to get Leroy Sane to sign a new deal with the club before Bayern Munich have the chance to launch an attack for the forward. The 23-year-old was heavily linked with a move back to Germany this summer, but an injury in the Community Shield put a halt to any potential move.
Despite Leroy Sane being ruled out till February, Manchester City have continued their contract negotiations for the German international. The 23-year-old has been amongst the Cityzens’ best players over the last few years and this has seen Bayern Munich take a keen interest in bringing the former Schalke star back to the Bundesliga. The Bavarians lost both Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery at the end of last season and believe that Sane is the ideal man to replace them or at least help the club move forward.
That saw them heavily linked with a move during the summer window, but that eventually collapsed after Sane ruptured his ACL after a collision in the Community Shield. It also saw Bayern bring in both Philippe Coutinho and Ivan Perisic on loan, although the latter does have an option to make his move to Germany permanent if he impresses the club. The Evening Standard has reported, however, that despite Sane’s injury, Manchester City are still hopeful that the German will commit his future to the Etihad and snub Bayern Munich instead.
The Bavarians did make two bids for the forward but their offers did not come anywhere near to Manchester City’s £137 million valuation. Reports further add that while Bayern Munich are ready to start the bidding again as early as January, the Cityzens are convinced that their extensive talks held with the German will be enough to convince him to stay.
