Louis Van Gaal was experienced and could have declined move if he had that opinion, claims Ralf Rangnick

Manchester United are in the midst of a thorough hiring process in their bid to find the right candidate for being the next permanent manager of the club. Mauricio Pochettino, Luis Enrique, Erik Ten Hag are considered as the frontrunners for the role and it is understood that United conducted interviews with the candidates over the international break. United have interviewed Ten Hag while talks have also been held with Pochettino, whose future at Paris Saint-Germain looks uncertain after their Champions League exit to Real Madrid.

Van Gaal issued a warning to his Dutch counterpart explaining that United are only interested in commercial aspects of the game rather than sporting matters and warned Ten Hag against the move if the job were offered to him.  The Manchester club’s interim manager Ralf Rangnick has claimed that Van Gaal himself should not have taken the role if he was privy to the information beforehand.

"Louis himself as an experienced coach signed a contract here some five or six years ago and he could have known that in advance if he had that opinion. I think football worldwide and even more so in the English Premier League when any rich person or company can buy a club, as long as they pass the fit and proper person test, is a commercialised business, that's for sure,” Rangnick told Sky Sports.

"What I can only tell you from the last four months is that this is a club with a big tradition with a close relationship with the supporters and to the whole city, region and area. For me, it's a great club and if the club draws the right conclusions I still see a very bright future for this club,” he added.
