I would call Manchester United and tell them to appoint Erik Ten Hag, says Pep Guardiola

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has said that he would urge Manchester United to hire Ajax boss Erik Ten Hag as he is an excellent manager although he indicated that United have systemic issues as their previous managers were excellent. Guardiola worked with the Dutch manager at Bayern.

Manchester United sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as their manager in November due to their inconsistent displays and terrible defensive record. The English giants appointed Ralf Rangnick as interim manager for the remainder of the season as they decided to conduct a thorough search before hiring their next permanent manager.

The German manager has implemented a high-pressing style and made United a more rigid team defensively although they have struggled in both domestic and European competitions. Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino and Ajax manager Erik Ten Hag are considered as the frontrunners for taking the hot seat at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag would be easier to hire as Ajax expect him to leave and have been easy to negotiate with. PSG is reported to only part company with Pochettino on their terms and not that of another club.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola worked with Ten Hag at Bayern Munich for two seasons when the Dutchman was in charge of the second team. The Spanish boss proclaimed that Ten Hag is a quality manager who would be a good fit for United.

“If I was 100% sure I would call Manchester United and tell those guys you have to take him. But I don’t know and nobody knows,” Guardiola said when asked if Ten Hag would be a success in the Premier League. He is a good manager, there’s no doubt about it. But so were all the previous managers since Sir Alex Ferguson left,” Guardiola said in his press conference.

“You cannot say David Moyes is not a good football manager and the others like Jose Mourinho or right now. All the managers that have been at United are excellent,” he added.
