UP Yoddha’s Assistant coach Arjun Singh said that his team’s defence was able to deliver because they prepared for Pune’s entire raiding unit and not just stars like Nitin Tomar. UP Yoddha won their fourth match against Puneri Paltan 35 - 30 on Monday and they are currently seventh on the table.

UP Yoddha started strong as raider Shrikant Jhadav got points from the word go. This was a raiding-heavy match as raiders from both sides were getting points frequently. UP Yoddha gained an early lead when they inflicted an all-out and were up by 12-6. They then built on that and finished the first half with a seven-point margin in their favour.

“Like yesterday, another brilliant performance from the team. We planned meticulously for their entire roster. Not just stars like Nitin Tomar. The defence did its job against the raiders that took the mat for them. We gave Shrikant Jadhav the responsibility of being the sole first choice raider and he proved his worth,” UP Yoddha Assistant coach Arjun Singh said in the post-match press conference.

The raiding unit as a whole scored 20 points out of which 15 points were scored by Shrikant Jadhav. This was his first Super 10 of the season. This was Shrikant’s best performance in this season till now. He could have wished for better support as Surender Gill scored only five points and got out four times. Shrikant performed in the absence of Rishank Devadiga and Monu Goyat and his performance made the biggest impact on the game from UP’s side.

“The coaches shouldered me with the responsibility of being the lead raider but did not pressurise me. They told me to play my game and express myself out on the mat and belief like that gives you a lot of confidence as a player. I'm pleased I could repay the coaching staff's trust. Listening to the coach and captain’s advice was the key to my performance,” Shrikant commented on his performance.
