David Warner : If Yuvraj keeps doing this, we will easily make it to the final
David Warner believes that if Yuvraj Singh can repeat his RCB onslaught five more times this season, Sunrisers Hyderabad will easily make it to the final of the IPL for a second year running. Southpaw Yuvraj slammed a 27-ball 62 to pave the way for his team's 35-run win yesterday.
After Warner was dismissed early, Shikhar Dhawan and Moises Henriques shared in a 74-run stand to bring SRH back into the game. However, it was thanks to some vintage batting by Yuvraj that SRH started to take the game away from RCB.
“That’s the Yuvi (Yuvraj Singh) that I am used to watching on TV. It was superb stroke and clean hitting play from him, he backed himself. That’s the way that we know he can play and that’s the way that we want him to keep playing,” Warner told a post-match news conference.
“If he can do that another five or six times in the tournament we will easily make the final and can also win,” PTI quoted Warner as saying.
“A great start. We take a lot of confidence from the win. Before the game, we had some pressure because we are defending champions. But the way we came out and played it was fantastic. Our middle-order and top-order were fantastic. 200 on this wicket was a good score.
“While defending there were a few nerves in the middle but we needed just one wicket. It was a fantastic all-round effort."
Yuvraj began slowly before changing gears in an Aniket Choudhary over with a six and two boundaries. Asked about his performance Yuvraj described his return to the National team as a confidence boost. The 35-year-old was called up for the ODI series against England late last year and scored a century in the second ODI.
“I enjoyed my batting tonight. My batting has been up and down over a couple of years, but I am feeling really good at the moment. I just need to continue this good run forward," Yuvraj said. “The comeback into the Indian team has really helped me. I am freer in my mind and I am not worrying anymore about making a comeback. I am just going to play according to the situation and express myself.”
