A T20 match between Bangladesh and Windies might not guarantee class or grit to the neutrals but it is almost always exciting. The second T20I being held in Dhaka promised nothing else. To make things spicier, the hosts posted a huge 212-run target after batting first banking on the heroics of Liton Das, Shakib Al Hasan, and Mahmudullah.

It demanded a strong start and the names in Windies lineup had every possibility of reaching it. After an initial hiccup of Evin Lewis’ dismissal, Shai Hope was seen steadying the mast before the responsibility was taken by Rovman Powell. But, if there is one thing that both these teams excel in, is inconsistency.

From 98/4 in the eleventh over, where the match was pretty much in the grip of the visitors, Windies saw a sudden collapse from where a comeback was impossible. And much of the blame should be taken by Windies skipper Brathwaite who showed utter irresponsibility in leaving his side stranded. 

Coming to bat in the 12th over, Brathwaite took just three balls before sending Mehidy Hasan for a six over long-off. Two days after he became IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders’ star buy at the auction for 5 crores, the West Indian was looking worth every penny of it, albeit for a brief period. For a skipper, Brathwaite lacks every mentality and it was shown in the manner of his dismissal.

Facing Shakib, his huge swing completely missed the flighted delivery down the leg as he was going full throttle on his knee. He was overbalanced consequently, for a second, but took almost an eternity to get back into the crease. So much so that wicket-keeper Rahim got four attempts to just get hold of the ball, which kept bouncing on his abdomen, wrist and palms. But, he still managed to hold it and remove the bails and appealing to the third umpire. It was an easy decision in the end.
