BCCI announce Deepak Chahar and Krunal Pandya as replacements for Jasprit Bumrah and Washington Sundar

Deepak Chahar and Krunal Pandya have been named as replacements for the injured duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Washington Sundar for the T20I series against England. While Bumrah has a fracture on his left thumb, Sundar has been sidelined due to an injury to his left ankle.

Jasprit Bumrah fractured his finger during the second T20I against Ireland and was not selected in the Playing XI for the second Ireland T20I. While it appeared his absence of due to the fact that the management would have wanted to hand caps to fringe players, it was later revealed that the pacer had picked up an injury. The death over specialist will be replaced in the squad by Deepak Chahar who has a part of the CSK side that won the IPL this year.

"The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Krunal Pandya as Washington Sundar’s replacement in India’s T20I side and Axar Patel in the ODI side for the upcoming limited-overs series against England," a BCCI press release read.

"Jasprit Bumrah has a fractured left thumb and has been ruled out of the upcoming T20I series against England. Bumrah suffered the injury during India’s first T20I against Ireland. The selectors have named Deepak Chahar as his replacement in the T20I side."

But that was not the extent of the damage as Washington Sundar who had been exceptional in the Nidahas Trophy, picking up the man of the series award, was also ruled out due to an ankle injury. His replacement, Krunal Pandya, has been rewarded for his consistent performances in the IPL for Mumbai Indians over the last two seasons. 

"Sundar suffered an injury to his right ankle during Indian team’s training session at the Malahide Cricket Club, Dublin on June 26, 2018. He subsequently underwent scans and was seen by a specialist. The BCCI Medical Team will continue to monitor his progress," the press release added.

The T20I leg of India's tour of England begins on July 3 at Manchester. They travel to Cardiff for the second T20I three days later and the final T20I would be on July 8 at Bristol. The ODI series against England, which consists of three matches, would begin at Nottingham on July 12. Lord's and Leeds have been slated as the venues for the second and third ODI. Axar Patel has been included in the squad in place of injured Washington Sundar for the ODI leg of the tour to England. 

There was also an update provided for the India A team with Rishabh Pant getting a call up to the four-day team as well.

"The selectors have also added Rishabh Pant to India A squad for the four-day matches. Currently a member of the India A’s squad for the one-day games, Pant will continue to be with the side for the longer format too."
