While reviews have made the life of cricketers easier, sometimes, desperation gets the better of them. Kolkata Knight Riders decided to go for a review despite Rahul Tripathi having a huge inside edge and revealing immediately by saying “Bat Laga” which eventually resulted in KKR losing the review.

Due to the cloud cover in Kolkata, there was no trace of dew in Kolkata and the spinners got into the business immediately. The Rajasthan Royals spinners had an easier proposition in front of them and taking the benefit of the lack of dew, they strangulated the hosts before the lower middle order taking the team to a score of 159 runs in their most important match in the league so far.

Chasing 160 was always going to be difficult for the Royals, who missed the services of Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes midway due to national commitments and they needed their opening pair of Rahul Tripathi and Ajinkya Rahane to fire from the onset. And the duo did exactly that as they took on the pacers with amazing ease and they guided the team to 47 in 5 overs. It was Tripathi who basically played the role of an enforcer and looked at his fluent best.

On the penultimate ball of the fifth over, Sunil Narine got the ball to come into the right-hander and found the inside edge of the blade. The ball then stuck on Tripathi’s pads after hitting the bat, but the entire KKR rose up to appeal for the LBW, to which umpire denied. However, Tripathi, immediately, cautioned that he had edged and it was going to be a waste of a review.

However, KKR were in utter desperation to break the stand discussed and it appeared that KKR would not go for the review but Karthik had a change of heart and decided to go ahead with it. It resulted in the team and the crowd sighing after watching the replay on the big screen.

The role of a finisher is one of the most unforgiving jobs in all of cricket, for they are the wins remembered for wins and blamed for losses. Nurul Hasan found himself in a similar situation in Sylhet on Thursday with the odds skewed massively against him, only to end up achieving the unfathomable.

Farewell is always a sad occasion. If you managed to catch Andres Iniesta pulling on the Barcelona jersey one final time at the Camp Nou, as the legendary Spaniard made his last ever appearance for the club, you could sense the sadness in the air all around the stadium where he plied his trade.
