VIDEO | Mohammed Siraj’s beamer helps Andre Russell switch on beast mode against RCB
Andre Russell is playing some blistering knocks for Kolkata Knight Riders in the ongoing season of the IPL and the latest one is his match-winning knock against RCB in Bengaluru. However, it was one above waist height no ball from Mohammed Siraj that helped Russell to switch on his beast mode.
When Kolkata Knight Riders were 153/5 in 17 overs while chasing 206 against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Friday, nobody could have thought that they will win the game with five balls to spare. But, Russell had other ideas for the night and his carnage with the bat ensured the fifth consecutive loss for Virat Kohli and co. Kolkata skipper Dinesh Karthik was still in the middle when Russell arrived to bat and in his first four balls, he has just scored a single and with pressure mounting on him, it was even looking difficult for the Caribbean to turn things around.
The 18th over was bowled by Siraj who was already going through a rough patch by giving away 28 runs in only two overs and spilling chances on the field as well. He, however, made a good start in the fresh over by bowling a couple of dot balls. But, things suddenly changed as the young man from Hyderabad first bowled a wide and then a full toss above waist height which was sent packing into the stands by Russell. In search of a yorker, the pacer landed himself in trouble by bowling a beamer which was muscled over deep mid wicket for a huge six. This was the second beamer by Siraj in the match and he was taken off the bowling attack after that. The over was completed by Marcus Stoinis and the hard-hitting all-rounder smoked two back-to-back sixes in the next two balls as well.
After that, Tim Southee also failed to stop Russell, who had switched on his beast mode, and just like the first two games against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kings XI Punjab, he single-handedly won the game for the Kolkata side with a knock of 48 off 13 deliveries. His breathtaking innings included a total of seven sixes and one four.
