Ravichandran Ashwin has been directed to deposit a fine of Rs. 12 lakh as his team Kings XI Punjab maintained slow over-rate during the match against Delhi Capitals on Saturday. Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane and Virat Kohli were also fined for the similar offence earlier in the 12th season of IPL.

Kings XI Punjab not only lost the game against Delhi Capitals at the Feroz Shah Kotla yesterday, but their skipper will also have to pay a penalty as the Punjab bowlers maintained a slow over-rate in the game. This has been a problem for the Indian captains in the ongoing IPL and Ashwin is the fourth captain to be fined for the offence.

As this was the first such offence for the Mohali-based franchise and their captain Ashwin under the Code of Conduct of the league, the Tamil Nadu off-spinner was handed a fine of Rs. 12 lakh.

“Kings XI Punjab captain Ravichandran Ashwin has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 match against Delhi Capitals in Delhi on 20th April 2019,” an IPL media release stated.

“As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr. Ashwin was fined Rs 12 lakh.”

The match had gone all down to the wire till the final over and Kings XI Punjab were defeated by five wickets by the Capitals at the latter’s home ground in Delhi.
