IND vs WI 2022 | It was a phenomenal finish in the end, says Rohit Sharma

India have secured a series win against West Indies in a three-match T20I series winning the second fixture by eight runs. West Indies opted to bowl first and India posted a total of 186/5. Defending the target, Indian bowlers bowled very well under dew and defended the target. Reflecting on the victory, Rohit Sharma opined that it was a phenomenal finish and also praised Bhuvneshwar Kumar for his bowling in death. 

“You are always a bit scared when you are playing against these guys. In the end it was a phenomenal finish. Right from the start we knew it wouldn't be easy. But I am proud we executed our plans under pressure. It was very critical at that point when Bhuvneshwar bowled. That's where experience comes into play. Bhuvi has been doing it for many years and we believe in him a lot,” Rohit said in the post-match presentation. 

Earlier in the match, India posted a total of 186/5 courtesy of half-centuries by Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant. Kohli scored 52 runs from 41 balls and Pant scored unbeaten 52 runs from 28 balls. Venkatesh Iyer also played a crucial innings at the end with a knock of 33 runs from 18 balls. Rohit praised Kohli for the way he played. Also he praised the maturity shown by Iyer. 

“The way Virat started he took the pressure off me as well. It was a very important innings. And great finish by Rishabh and Venky Iyer. To see that sort of maturity from Iyer is very pleasing. He looks confident and towards the end he asked me if I wanted to give him an over,” he stated.

India won the contest in a close match but the fielding was a bit sloppy. They dropped two crucial catches of the opposition batsmen. Ravi Bishnoi first dropped a catch of Nicholas Pooran in the deep and Bhuvneshwar dropped a sitter in the second half of the West Indies innings. Rohit said that the team should look to minimize the fielding errors they committed in the fixture. 

“We were a little sloppy in the field, a little disappointed with that. We could have done better if we had taken those catches. We wan to try and minimise those mistakes moving forward,” he revealed.
