Kolkata Knight Riders beat Lucknow Super Giants by eight wickets at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Chasing a decent 162 runs, the home side was off to a decent start coupled with Phil Salt’s splendid innings of 89 runs off 47 deliveries, which ultimately helped the visitors to beat the home side.

‌Winning the toss paid well for the home team as they managed to scalp Lucknow opener Quinton de Kock in the second over of the game. The woe persisted for the Super Giants as they lost Deepak Hooda in the fifth over. With KL Rahul and Ayush Badoni on the crease, the Lucknow side reached 49/2 at the end of the powerplay. The duo looked great and built a stable 39 runs stand taking the scoreboard to 72/2 in 10 overs. As Rahul was looking good with the bat scoring at a strike rate of 144, Andre Russell struck and dismissed the Lucknow skipper for 39 runs off 27 deliveries. Unfortunately, wickets kept tumbling for the visitors thereafter as they lost Marcus Stoinis in the 12th over with the scorecard at 95/4. Lucknow’s power hitter Nicholas Pooran and Ayush Badoni couldn't build a stable partnership either and the 24-year-old Delhi batter departed in the 15th. However, Pooran switched gears in the slog overs and scored a splendid 45 off 32 deliveries to take the Lucknow scorecard to 161/7 in 20 overs.

Despite losing Sunil Narine in the second over, the home team were off to a rollicking start with Phil Salt and Angkrish Raghuvanshi taking their side to 42/1 in three overs. However, Lucknow’s speedster Mohsin Khan got the visitors back into contention by scalping Narine and Raghuvanshi in the fourth over. Nevertheless, Salt and Shreyas Iyer remained resilient and had taken the side to 101/2 in 10 overs when the 28-year-old English completed a 26-ball fifty. The duo looked unstoppable as they managed to win the game in 15.4 overs with Salt scoring 89 off 47 deliveries, coupled with Iyer’s run-a-ball 38. With the win, Kolkata Knight Riders gained two important points and climbed to number two on the points table.
