IPL 2024 | Twitter reacts to unaware Siraj obstructing the field to nearly run out Shubman Gill

Cricket is a funny game and at the same time, a game of mere margins. A light-hearted incident that almost led to Shubman Gill’s dismissal in the first innings involved Mohammed Siraj non-deliberately blocking him as RCB squared off against GT in the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

During the toss, RCB captain Faf du Plessis backed his side to chase down a total in the day game and it proved worthy at the start when Swapnil Singh outsmarted Wriddhiman Saha in the first over itself. With B Sai Sudharsan and Gill trying to soak up the pressure, a bizarre incident took centerstage with unobservant Siraj almost blocking the Gt skipper’s path to take a run before Virat Kohli missed a direct hit to induce a run-out.

On the fifth delivery of the second over, Gill pushed a full-pitch delivery around the fourth stump towards mid-off and immediately set off for a quick single. As the batter wanted to sneak a run Siraj lost his poise and fell in the centre of the strip, unawarely blocking the Punjab-bred’s trajectory. In the meantime, Kohli grabbed the ball from mid-off and made a shy at the non-striker’s end but just fell short marginally short of inducing a run out against diving Gill.

The Twitterverse closely followed this incident and here’s how they reacted.

That looked scary!

Shubman was lucky there!

Yeah looks like!

That would have been serious injury!

Dangerous!

Yeah saw that!

He was at the danger end!
