Pakistan finished with a strong total of 259/5 against England on the first day of the Test match in Multan. The batting was led by Kamran Ghulam’s century and Saim Ayub’s 77, helping Pakistan reach a solid score, while Jack Leach impressed with the ball and claimed two important wickets.

‌A bright, sunny morning in Multan marked the first day of the second Test between Pakistan and England. Home captain Shaan Masood won the toss and chose to bat first, a decision that initially backfired. The spin-friendly pitch was effectively exploited by Jack Leach and Shoaib Bashir, with Leach striking first to dismiss Abdullah Shafique in the eighth over. He continued his impressive spell, removing the Pakistan captain and leaving the score at a precarious 19/3. However, debutant Kamran Ghulam and Saim Ayub steadied the innings, forging a partnership of 65 runs and bringing the score to 79/2 by the time lunch was called after 29 overs.

After lunch, the duo shifted gears and adopted a more aggressive approach as Saim Ayub reached his half-century off 97 balls. Kamran Ghulam, showing great flair in his debut, also notched a half-century and drew applause from the dressing room. The pair looked solid, building a 100-run partnership and taking the score to 120/2 in 44 overs. England’s bowlers struggled to break the stand, but Matthew Potts finally dismissed Ayub in the 56th over, ending the 149-run partnership. By tea, Pakistan’s score stood at 173/3 after 57 overs.

Post tea, Saud Shakeel fell cheaply for just four runs, but Kamran Ghulam continued his fine form, keeping the scoreboard ticking as Pakistan reached 178/4 in 62 overs. The highlight of the day came when Ghulam scored a brilliant century, pushing the score to 214/4 in 74 overs. Alongside Mohammad Rizwan, Ghulam built a strong 65-run partnership, guiding Pakistan to a solid total. However, just before the day's close, Bashir dismissed Ghulam, ending his remarkable innings. Pakistan finished the day at 259/5 at stumps.

It’s not uncommon for a player to be selected for the national team and score a century on debut. A similar feat occurred on the first day of the Test match between Pakistan and England, where Kamran Ghulam, who replaced Babar Azam, played valiantly and scored a century in his debut game.
