The importance of experience is often undervalued in the sporting realm, and the fifth match of 2the 025 Indian Premier League made it strikingly clear why it is so important. Shubman Gill, the Gujarat Titans captain, denied the keeper’s suggestion to cost them a review against the Punjab Kings.

Winning the toss in their first game of the season, Gill decided to field first, keeping in mind the dew factor. Opening bowlers Mohammed Siraj and Kagiso Rabada failed to execute their plans perfectly despite the wicket of Prabhsimran Singh in the 73-run powerplay. As the hosts were in desperate need of a wicket, Gill ended up making a costly error in decision-making in the first half of the game.

On the opening ball of the sixth over, Rabada, bowling his third-straight over, dished a length delivery straight on the money that Shreyas Iyer failed to connect on an intended flick. He got a thud at the pad and suggested captain Gill go upstairs despite Buttler’s denial. As the ball tracking unfolded, the ball was making an impact outside the leg stump and definitely missing the stumps due to an in-seam. Therefore, the original decision was retained, causing a Twitterverse uproar on Gill’s poor DRS tactics.

Lost the review!
