Shreyas Iyer has created history in the Indian Premier League, and this time as a captain. He already led three different teams to the IPL finals. And now, he has achieved the record of the highest win percentage as a skipper in the tournament's history.
Shreyas Iyer continues to shine as a captain in the shortest format of the game. Sarpanch Saab started the IPL 2026 yesterday for his team, the Punjab Kings, leading them to a win. Their match against the Gujarat Titans went way too close, only for the Punjab Kings to come out victorious in the end.
And with that win, the winning percentage of Shreyas Iyer as a captain has improved to a significant extent. Iyer has a winning percentage of 59.30 as a skipper in the IPL, having led his team in a minimum of 50 games. With this win, he has overtaken Hardik Pandya, who earlier stood at the top with a winning percentage of 59.01.

In this list, the iconic captains such as Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni also stand below Shreyas Iyer. Dhoni holds the fourth spot in the list, with a winning percentage of 58.36, leading his team to five title wins. Rohit Sharma stands 6th in the list, with a winning percentage of 56.32, also leading his team to five title wins.
Our Take
Despite not being in India's T20I side, Shreyas Iyer continues to showcase his form as a skipper. He led Delhi Capitals to the IPL finals for the first time in the 2020 season. Later, he also led the Kolkata Knight Riders to win their third IPL title in the 2024 season. However, he was soon released by the team and bought by the Punjab Kings.
So, he decided to help PBKS reach the IPL finals for the second time. In the last season, Punjab Kings finished at the top of the table under his captaincy and even went to the finals. His record as a captain remains impressive, as he aims to lead the Punjab Kings to win their first-ever title in 2026.
