Losing an in-form batter in the first ball of the chase is never a good sign and Matt Henry engineered exactly that against Sri Lanka in the T20 World Cup. The New Zealand pacer cleaned up in-form opener Pathum Nissanka to send the home crowd into a stunning silence during the Super Eight contest.

‌New Zealand beat Sri Lanka by 61 runs in their Super Eight contest of the T20 World Cup in Colombo on Wednesday. After being put into bat at the R Premadasa Stadium, the Kiwis recovered unbelievably to put 168/7, including a massive 70-run tally in the last four overs, riding on impressive cameos from Rachin Ravindra (32) and Mitchell Santner (47). In return, the home side could manage only 107/8, with Ravindra shining with the ball too, with a spell of 4/27.

But it was Matt Henry, who set the tone with his impressive spell first up with the new ball picking up two wickets in his first two overs. It was a perfect start for the Kiwi pacer as he sent the home crowd into a stunning silence packing off opener Pathum Nissanka off the very first ball.

He fired in a 137-kmph delivery on a good length outside off stump that seamed in unbelievably to catch the in-form Sri Lanka opener off-guard. He was caught in the crease as the ball went through his defence to break the furniture, leaving him stunned.

A visibly charged up Henry pumped his fist and gave out a loud roar as his Kiwi teammates rushed to congratulate him.

Splendid start!
