The first semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2026 has ended and what a show it was. Tim Seifert and Finn Allen dominated the Proteas bowlers pretty well, making the semi-final look like just another bilateral series game. This also brings a wave of happiness for the three time IPL champions KKR, as both players will play for them in the upcoming season.
As the IPL 2026 season comes closer, each and every team is eager to give their best to win this time. The same also goes for Kolkata Knight Riders, who have played the best in the auction itself. While one of their auction calls went controversial, the team still has two players who have been on the headlines lately.
And it is the aggressive duo of Tim Seifert and Finn Allen. Both of them have been dominant in the T20 format, and left no stones unturned when the team went against South Africa in the semi-finals of the tournament. This has brought joy to the KKR fans and franchise, as they aim to get the 4th IPL title in IPL 2026.
Allen & Seifert’s Heroics
Out of all the opening duos which were present in the T20 World Cup 2026, the dominance of Finn Allen and Tim Seifert remains unmatched. They have been one of the key reasons why New Zealand has been able to dominate each and every game in the tournament till now. With just one loss in the campaign so far, the team now marches to the finals.
It is not just that both players were scoring runs in group stages or Super Eight. Their form continued when the team needed it the most, even in the semi-final clash against South Africa. With South Africa batting first, the Kiwis had a great start with the ball, putting them at 77/5. But some fight was shown by Tristan Stubbs (29) and Marco Jansen (55), to help the Proteas finish at 169/8.
This seems a defendable total, considering the fact that it is an ICC event and South Africa also has good bowling power. But none of these mattered when Finn Allen and Tim Seifert came to open the chase. In the powerplay only, New Zealand managed to put up 84 runs without losing a wicket, which put them halfway to the chase.
Tim Seifert completed his half-century in 28 balls, while Finn Allen took just 19 balls for the same. The team lost its first wicket in the 10th over, with Seifert being dismissed for 58. But the Finn Allen show didn't end till the game was over. In the 13th over, Finn Allen finished the game with a four and also completed his century in 33 balls.
KKR’s Brilliant Auction Move
Taking a look at the semi-final match between South Africa and New Zealand, it can be said that New Zealand is not the only team that is happy. Another team that is happier than them is the three-time IPL champions, Kolkata Knight Riders. KKR must be specifically happy for the performances made by Seifert and Allen at the big stage, noting that the semis was being played at Eden Gardens.
It should be noted that there was no bidding war for both of these batsmen in the auction. Thus, KKR was able to get Finn Allen for 2 crore and Tim Seifert for 1.50 crore respectively. Now it comes as a steal deal for the team, and their opening slot also looks locked for the upcoming season. If the auction had been done after the T20 WC, both of them would have grabbed much more.
Dream T20 WC Campaign for Seifert-Allen
This T20 World Cup could be termed as a dream campaign for both Tim Seifert and Finn Allen. Both of them have the same aggressive nature, which they have maintained throughout the tournament. No other opening duo has managed to get such a level of success in the same, which further allowed Seifert and Allen to set records.
Tim Seifert & Finn Allen’s Partnership in T20 WC 2026:
- Vs Afghanistan: 14 (9)
- Vs UAE: 175 (92)
- Vs South Africa: 33 (20)
- Vs Canada: 30 (16)
- Vs Pakistan: DNP
- Vs Sri Lanka: 30 (19)
- Vs England: 64 (42)
- Vs South Africa (Semi-final): 117 (55)
With the T20 World Cup 2026, Tim Seifert and Finn Allen have made 463 runs in all innings combined for the opening partnership. Yesterday's semi-final game allowed them to overtake Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmanullah Gurbaz in this record, who made 446 runs together in 2024. Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul are the only Indian duo in this list, standing 6th with 321 runs.
Even now, there is one more game for New Zealand to play in the tournament. As they wait for the finals, India and England will be going against each other to determine which team takes on New Zealand on 8 March.
