Gave my 100 per cent to the club, admits Mauricio Pochettino
Mauricio Pochettino has said that he gave his best to Tottenham Hotspur during his five and a half years as the manager of the club. The Argentine manager was relieved of his managerial duties by chairman Daniel Levy during the recent international break following a poor start to Spurs’ campaign.
Mauricio Pochettino was sacked by Tottenham after five and a half years in charge of the North London side and after he guided them to four successive top four finishes over the last five years. Not only that, the former Espanyol manager lead the club to their first Champions League final and while they eventually lost to Liverpool, the 47-year-old was praised for doing that despite not spending a single penny in the preceding transfer windows.
Jose Mourinho was replaced as the manager of the North London club and has started his career at Tottenham with two back to back victories. However, in the first time since leaving the club, Pochettino went on to praise Daniel Levy and owner Joe Lewis.
“There were equally tough challenges as exciting successes. Best wishes for the future, I am sure we will cross paths again. I gave the best of me to accomplish the objectives I was asked for in our first meeting. I would like to thank Joe Lewis and Daniel Levy for giving me the opportunity to be part of Tottenham Hotspur's history. I would like to thank also everyone I met at Tottenham, all the club staff and the football players during these years. Finally, I would like to give a special mention to the fans who make this club so great with their fantastic support,” said the former Tottenham manager to the BBC.
The sack has now made Pochettino available to a number of clubs who are on the lookout for a new manager. The former Espanyol manager could take over the reins at Arsenal after Unai Emery was sacked by Stan Kroenke. Bayern Munich too are on the lookout for a new manager after axing Niko Kovac. However, the Argentine admires Real Madrid and might take the job if Zinedine Zidane is sacked following disturbing performances from the Los Blancos.
