WATCH | Virat Kohli left frustrated after Chris Gaffney refers easy decision to third umpire

Cricket has witnessed many umpiring blunders throughout the years but this season's IPL has tried its best to match all those in just one tournament. From Rohit Sharma's LBW to Robin Uthappa been given not out when he was caught plumb, there have been over 10 instances where the umpires have failed to do justice to the game with their decisions.

After Indian umpires, it was the Kiwi official Chris Gaffney's turn to come under the spotlight. Having conceded 39 off the first three overs, RCB decided to throw the ball to 12-crore man Tymal Mills to get the much-needed breakthrough. On the 4th delivery, his arched ball caught the glove of Gautam Gambhir and Kedhar Jadhav gloved an easy catch but umpire Gaffney remained unmoved as the wicketkeeper began his celebratory run towards the bowler. 

On seeing this Jadhav raised his hand, appealing for the decision, forcing the umpire to rethink his call and so did Tymal Mills. Gaffney decided to refer the call to the third umpire, which can only be done if the umpire is unsure about whether the ball had carried to the fielder. The replays did not paint a pretty picture as it appeared Jadhav had comfortably caught the ball well above ground level. The RCB skipper Virat Kohli was seen signalling the distance where Jadhav caught the ball and then the decision was sent upstairs.

The incident has once again provided fire to the debate of bringing DRS referrals to T20 matches and it would surely be for the good as the umpires seem to be under pressure in the fast-paced format.
