West Indies has fielded a young team against India in the ongoing first ODI whose playing eleven's combined match presence is less than MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh. Jason Holder, the West Indies skipper, is just 25-year old and will be playing his 38th match in the role.

India is taking on a young and inexperienced West Indies team on their home turf and are the favourites to win the away series as well. Windies, as it is known currently, has been struggling in international cricket since the veteran and experienced players have decided to boycott international games owing to their pay dispute with Cricket West Indies(CWI).

Cricket West Indies choose only the players who feature in the domestic competitions to represent the country. However, players like Chris Gayle, Darren Sammy, and Dwayne Bravo have decided to try their fortunes in the lucrative T20 leagues around the world that have left the Carribean team in a spot of bother.

Darren Sammy recently confirmed that the veteran players will continue their international snub until their demands are met. West Indies are ninth in the ICC ODI rankings and face an uphill task to break into the top eight teams for direct qualification into the 2019 World Cup. Failing to do so, will require them to battle it out in the qualifiers in 2018 to earn a spot in the prestigious cricketing event. The young team recently tied a series at 1-1 with underdogs Afghanistan.

The West Indies playing eleven that is taking on India today have featured in 207 matches combined compared to MS Dhoni's 291 and Yuvraj Singh's 301. On the other hand, India's playing eleven's combined match experience adds up to 1,199 matches with 33,391 runs in comparison to West Indies 3536 runs.
