IPL 2019 | We have plan set for Andre Russell, says Krishnappa Gowtham

Krishnappa Gowtham has said that the Rajasthan Royals have a proper set of plans to stop the marauding run of Andre Russell in the 12th season of the IPL. After beating Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kolkata Knight Riders will take on the Royals in another away match in Jaipur this evening.

With 207 runs in only four games and that too batting lower down the order, Russell has been the star for KKR so far in this season. He stole the limelight yet again on Friday when his ability to hit sixes ensured another thrilling victory for the Dinesh Karthik-led side against RCB in Bengaluru.

With KKR now preparing for away challenge against Rajasthan, Gowtham has said that the Royals have made plans to counter Russell’s muscle power in today’s game.

"He has been in very good form. He has been hitting a lot of sixes and he is doing well for his team. We do have a plan set for him and hopefully it comes out," Gowtham said ahead of Sunday’s game, reported PTI.

The Royals are not having a great tournament and have won only one game that was their last one against RCB. They are currently placed at seventh place with only two points from four games. However, with the game against KKR coming up, Gowtham wants to carry on with the winning momentum that they got in their last home game against the Virat Kohli-led team last Tuesday.

"Yes we were having certain hiccups but we are peaking at the right time and doing well. In the last game against RCB everything came out really well. We want to carry on the winning momentum. It was not that we had bowled badly but it was just that we couldn't come out at the crucial time and we couldn't perform. It's just that," the Karnataka cricketer explained.

Gowtham also spoke about playing with his Karnataka teammate Shreyas Gopal in the IPL after the latter bagged the Man of the Match in the previous game against RCB, the team from their home state. Gopal had scalped three wickets in four overs including the ones of Kohli and De Villiers.

"We have played together for long and have a good repo. We talk about the wicket and conditions often."

"Yes I would like to showcase my talent (with the bat) if I get an opportunity but with top order performing so well I don't think they need that much of hitting power," the 30-year-old all-rounder concluded.
