Shikhar Dhawan has heaped praise on Delhi Capitals' advisor Sourav Ganguly and Coach Ricky Ponting by saying that they know how to train players and infuse confidence in them. Delhi capitals have flourished under the watchful eyes of the duo and are currently sitting at the apex on the points table.

After six long years, Delhi Capitals have finally seen a ray of hope by making it to the playoffs, their first since 2012. The win over RCB on Sunday meant DC ensured a spot in the playoffs and now have eight wins from 12 games. With the primary battle being won, DC’s next goal would be to finish in the top 2 on the points table.

There is no doubt that the presence of Sourav Ganguly and Ricky Ponting has played a huge role in shaping up the team. The budding talents have been very well guided by Shikhar Dhawan, who is the third most run-scorer this season, amassing 451 from 12 encounters. With Dhawan rediscovering his form, he will be the man to watch out for in the games to come. The southpaw has accredited advisor Ganguly and coach Ponting for the revival of Delhi Capitals as a unit.

“The coaches play an important role and in Ponting and Dada we have two former skippers who led their teams successfully and know how to go about the job of planning and strategising. They know how to prepare players and give them confidence,” Dhawan said, reported IANS.

Dhawan further spoke about how the side has stepped up in all the departments and have a fine combination of talent, youth and experience.

“The team is balanced and both the batting and bowling department has the required arsenal. The Indian players in the top-order like Rishabh (Pant), Prithvi (Shaw), skipper Shreyas (Iyer) or me as well as the overseas players have built a nice blend of youth and experience. Ishant (Sharma) has also bowled well and it has been a complete team effort,” Dhawan said.

Dhawan last played for his home side Delhi 11 years back and is certainly delighted to make a comeback for his home side after such a long time.

“The confidence is high and I am enjoying the momentum I have gained. I have been enjoying myself with Delhi. I am back with the team after 11 years so that is a reason to rejoice. The team has been doing well and that adds to the joy,” Dhawan quipped.
