Dinesh Karthik is certainly not someone who enters an argument with match officials, but today was an anomaly when the umpire called “strangest overthrow decision ever” in the IPL history. Karthik was seen having an animated discussion with the umpire when a normal throw was termed as an overthrow.

On the first ball of the sixth over, Prasidh Krishna managed to take the ball into Mayank Agarwal against which the Karnataka batsman moved on his backfoot and played towards cover for a single. Nitish Rana was alert at cover and after collecting the ball, he was just passing it to Andre Russell who was there at mid-wicket. While everything thought that was it, the umpire suddenly stopped the game to check something and it was also seen that Karthik and Robin Uthappa were having some discussion with both the umpires.

Everyone seemed to have been confused by that and the commentators also didn’t have an idea of what was happening. Ravichandran Ashwin also came from the dugout to check the proceedings on the sideline. Making it more confusing for the spectators, the umpire suddenly signalled four and everyone was left wondering what was that for. Dinesh Karthik and Russell were not happy and the skipper was seen explaining something to the umpire when the TV production decided to showcase the original footage.

So, when Rana threw the ball to Russell, the all rounder lost the ball in the lights. The ball ultimately ran away to the fence for the four and although KKR didn’t have any interest in throwing the ball, the law book was not kind to them. Karthik was literally pleading the umpire to withdraw the four, but to no avail.

R Ashwin is probably the most-searched person in the last three days and he did little to change the reputation as his captaincy left a lot to be desired. He fielded three players inside the ring in the death overs and the umpire called it a no-ball despite Mohammed Shami castling Andre Russell.
