England enjoyed a splendid start to the day as Harry Brook and debutant Jamie Smith's half-centuries propelled the team to a total of 371. Taking a 250 runs lead, English pacers looked dominant with James Anderson and Ben Stokes shining and leaving the Windies scorecard at 79/6 at Day 2 stumps.

The overnight batters, Joe Root and Harry Brook resumed the second day with a measured approach, bringing the 200 runs quickly. The West Indies pace trio of Shamar Joseph, Jayden Seales, and Alzarri Joseph did not get enough out of the conditions as the English pair extended the fourth wicket stand to 91. Following continuous fielding changes, the plot to bowl short worked against Brook who fell after scoring a fifty. With England’s score reading 250/4 halfway through the session, Gudakesh Motie’s jaffa cleaned up Ben Stokes to bring the visitors back into the game. Subsequently, Jamie Smith kept ticking the scorecard before Motie made further inroads by bamboozling Joe Root at the cusp of Lunch with England’s score read 293/6 with Chris Woakes and Smith at the crease. 

Post lunch, Woakes and Smith stabilised the stage by forging a 42-run partnership, effectively handling the spin attack from Motie and Kraigg Brathwaite. By the 80th over, England advanced the score to 329/6 before Seales worked his magic with the new ball, dismissing Woakes in the 82nd over. Jason Holder further dented England’s chase by scalping Gus Atkinson for a golden duck. However, Smith looked determined from the other end and scored fifty off 98 balls in his debut match. His valiant fight with the tail was monumental as England ended their tally at 371, securing a commanding lead of 250 runs. 

An early tea was followed by the dominance of English bowlers with the new ball as James Anderson and Ben Stokes drew early blood to remove Kraigg Brathwaite, Kirk McKenzie and Mikyle Louis, leaving the Windies scorecard at 36/3 in 18 overs.  The woes continued for the visitors as Kavem Hodge was dismissed in the 19th over, with England's pacers exerting dominance. However, Jason Holder and Alick Athanaze steadied the ship, guiding the Windies to 53/4 by the end of 26 overs. West Indies were inching closer to an innings defeat when Anderson dismissed Athanaze in the 29th over, leaving the score at 55/5. With Jason Holder's wicket falling in the 35th over, the day ended with the West Indies at 79/6 at stumps, trailing by 171 runs.
