Match Report

Gujarat Titans started their innings with caution, as Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar were able to generate movement with the new ball. Hazlewood was able to take the wicket of Sai Sudharsan early, as Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler rebuilt the innings well to take the team to 56/1 in the powerplay.

Buttler was able to dominate the spinners well in this 71-run stand, as Suyash Sharma trapped him in lbw when he was at 48. Gill continued to anchor the innings well, along with Washington Sundar who gave a late cameo. But, Josh Hazlewood and Romario Shepherd showed discipline in death overs, as GT was restricted to 184/7 in 20 overs, with Gill scoring 72 runs off 51 balls.

Replying to this, Royal Challengers Bengaluru had an impressive start as Phil Salt attacked both Kagiso Rabada and Mohammed Siraj. Salt and Kohli were able to score 79 runs in just 7 overs, putting Gujarat under pressure. Rashid Khan was able to shift the momentum as he dismissed Salt and Padikkal in quick succession.

But Virat Kohli was able to shift gears with Rajat Patidar, as they rotated strike well and even punished loose deliveries. The turning point arrived when Patidar smashed 18 runs in 16th over of the chase. RCB needed 22 runs off the last three overs, when Tim David smashed consecutive sixes to Rabada before Kohli finished the game. RCB scored 185/5 in 19.1 overs to mark their spot in the finals.
