Reports | Josep Maria Bartomeu hints at more arrivals at Barcelona
Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has said more signings are anticipated before the La Liga transfer window closes, amid speculations that the La Liga giants will soon make a bid for Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar. The club have already spent more than €230m on transfers so far.
After another underwhelming season in Europe, FC Barcelona have signed Antoine Griezmann, Frenkie de Jong, and Junior Firpo to boost their chances of winning the Champions League. To add to that collection, Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has hinted at few more additions to the club before the transfer window slams shit.
Whether or not that does include Neymar, few people know. But the Brazilian has been heavily linked with a move back this summer, with reports also suggesting that Neymar is pushing to leave the Ligue 1 champions less than two years after completing his world-record €222m move. There are talks of a season-long loan for the PSG number 10, with an option to buy in 2020.
Barcelona favour this move because it would not attract any FFP regulations on them, and will help them to balance their spending. "We have a stronger squad, with more potential," Bartomeu said. "There are still several weeks left for the market to close and we could have more incomings. The challenge is to continue the best era of success in the history of Barca. We have an ambitious and incredible squad, led by the best player in the world and in history, Leo Messi."
Neymar also ran into trouble with PSG at the beginning of the club’s training session, when he did not report for duty. PSG’s sporting director, Leonardo, has also confirmed that the player wants to leave.
