After their win against Gujarat yesterday, Patna coach Ram Mehar Singh said that their pride was at stake in the match and he is glad the team fought for the win. In their second last match of the season, Patna defeated Gujarat 39-33 and this was only their seventh win of the season.

Patna Pirates won their second last match against Gujarat Forunegiants after a determined comeback. They won by six points out of which they got the last three because of the all-out in the last raid. They were lagging behind when the first half ended and more a better part of the second half as well but that changed when they were able to inflict an all-out and close the gap between the two teams. The catalyst of the win, as always, was Pardeep Narwal as he was the highest scorer of the match.

“Our pride was at stake today and I'm glad that the team fought right up till the end and secured the win,” coach Ram Meher Singh said in the post-match press conference.

Patna Pirates' inability in the super tackles situations came to light when they were unable to inflict an all-out even when there were three people left on the mat. Though both the teams' defensive units scored a collective of 10 points, Patna’s defense also had as many as 17 unsuccessful tackles to their name as well. They were neck to neck in the end minute when they got a bit of momentum and so they were able to inflict an all-out and get to a win.

“I can’t really pinpoint one moment, but we had them pegged down to three and then two on the mat before giving up a point or two every time, which delayed the All Out. Had we been able to inflict an All-Out earlier, we would have been in control of the contest. I believe that’s where we ended up shooting ourselves in the foot,” Ram Meher concluded.
