When it comes to T20 cricket, the element of surprise is something that can give you an upper hand over your opponents and AB de Villiers is the king of surprises. De Villiers’ stunning knock of unbeaten 72 runs included a brilliant six that also surprised skipper Virat Kohli in the dugout.

Royal Challengers Bangalore entered the last night’s duel with fellow strugglers Delhi Daredevils with one sole intention in mind - to win at any cost. Virat Kohli & Co. knew that a win would still keep their hopes for a play-off spot alive in the latter stages of the tournament. DD also had a point to prove under skipper Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant who had triggered somewhat of a resurgence since Gautam Gambhir’s departure as captain and final XI player.

But at the end of the night, it was the Bangalore-based franchise that had the last laugh against the northerners at the Ferozeshah Kotla stadium in Delhi. A brilliant partnership between RCB skipper Virat Kohli and South African batsman AB de Villiers was enough to guide the visitors to a target of 182 runs with an over to spare.

But one of the highlights of the match would surely be a signature de Villiers style maximum that the South African sent all the way to the stands. It was the 19th over and Kiwi pacer Trent Boult was handed the task to try and restrict the visitors from reaching the total. But de Villiers had other plans in his mind.

The talismanic player improvised a crafty six as he took a big step towards the right before he sent the ball over the fence for a maximum. Kohli, who was in the dugout watching the game after playing a sensible innings, was left surprised with de Villiers’ smartness on the pitch as he displayed a look of complete shock. It must take a lot to get Kohli impressed, Well done ABD!
