IPL 2019 | Royal Challengers Bangalore players rated and slated from their unfortunate loss to Mumbai Indians
Small things matter a lot in the end and Royal Challengers Bangalore would be very disappointed in the manner of their loss tonight. AB de Villiers, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Virat Kohli did all to keep them in the team, but the umpiring error prevailed to decide the result of the game.
Moeen Ali (6.5/10): A run was never on offer, but Parthiv Patel set off yet again and this time instead of Hetmyer it was Moeen Ali who failed to make his crease. You could hardly fault him for this and given the fact that he had just hit a magnanimous six, I am going with 6.5.
Parthiv Patel (7/10): Got a very good start, but failed to capitalise. This is one of the regular stories in the IPL for Parthiv Patel and today was no different. However, what could be held against him was that he dragged a Mayank Markande googly on to the stumps where he had enough time to pick that up from his hand. That is the least that is expected from an experienced cricketer like him.
Virat Kohli (8/10): Isn’t it very difficult to imagine that a player cover drives his way to a blistering start in T20 cricket? Well, if the man in question is Virat Kohli, then expect some class from him and his 46-run innings was definitely a class act. He might have conceded the bragging rights to “World Ka Best Bowler” Jasprit Bumrah, then again, he had set up the base for AB to guide the team home.
AB de Villiers (8/10): Does anyone any further validation of why ABD is so celebrated in India? This is the reason why. Go and check the audacity of those sixes. For the first time ever in the IPL history though ABD was not-out in a run-chase and the team didn’t go over the line.
Shimron Hetmyer (3/10): Hetmyer is very good against the ball going outside the off-stump and in the India series last October, he failed to counter the ball which didn’t give enough rooms and Mumbai did exactly that today. No room for Hetmyer and he was gone, just like that. Was good on the field though.
Shivam Dube (7/10): Five sixes in an over in Ranji Trophy, five sixes an over in Mumbai T20 league and just like that Dube has upped the expectations to a new level. Tasked to take down Lasith Malinga in the last over, he gave his all. It is a shame that his effort was blurred down as the umpire didn’t call the Malinga last ball a no-ball.
Colin de Grandhomme (2/10): With the ball, he was bad. On the field, he was terrible. With the bat, he was even more terrible. And now its is definitely hard to think about how he could get a game in the IPL once Nathan Coulter-Nile and Marcus Stoinis return to the team.
Navdeep Saini (5/10): It wasn’t even close to his performance against Chennai Super Kings on the opening night, but Saini was very impressive with his length today. His line was the problem and on a small ground like the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, it was always going to be punished.
Yuzvendra Chahal (9/10): He was hit for three sixes, but still didn’t stop from tossing the ball up to Yuvraj, eventually managing to scalp his wicket on the fourth ball. This is the change in mindset of the bowlers Virat Kohli often talks about and Chahal’s eventual performance would definitely make him proud. 38/4. Well done, Purple Cap holder.
Umesh Yadav (8/10): The Vidarbha pacer was the Bangalore-based franchise’s best bowler last season and the first home match goes on to vindicate that further. Yadav was economical - something that he has not been for India lately - and pocketed two crucial wickets of Rohit Sharma and Krunal Pandya.
Mohammed Siraj (7/10): It was Chinnaswamy and the bowlers were anyway going to be hit. In that pre-condition, you always expect your bowler to be judged in a very different metric. Siraj conceded runs, but took two brilliant catches and dismissed two batsmen, which essentially made for it.
