Don’t see English teams dominating again, reveals Jurgen Klopp
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp believes that English sides will not repeat their European glory this season, despite both European titles being held by English teams. The Reds won last season’s Champions League, beating Tottenham in the final, with Chelsea beating Arsenal in the Europa League final.
Klopp became the first Liverpool manager to lift a European trophy with the club, since Rafael Benitez, at the end of last season also ending his trophy drought. Since handing Bayern Munich a 5-2 beating with former side Borussia Dortmund in 2012, the German manager had been in six straight major cup finals without a single win.
However, despite watching two English sides become winners of the Europa League and the Champions League, Klopp doesn’t believe that that dominance will be repeated. It was a fantastic display of English supremacy but with the group stage draws for both competitions coming closer, the competition has clearly become even better, with teams across the world adding to their stables of world-class talent.
"The groups will be incredible. I have no clue who will win the Champions League. We have the same chance like everyone else, but that is all, and no I don't see us, the English teams, dominating. I don't think there was ever a stronger Pot 2. It is just crazy. They should all be in Pot 1, but there is not enough space there. I don't think there was ever a stronger Pot 3. Then Pot 4 you can get RB Leipzig- wow!” said Klopp to Goal.com
