Football player Omid Singh is willing to give up his Iranian citizenship in order to represent India as a person of Indian origin (PIO). This is according to an exclusive report in the Times of India newspaper; Nonetheless, Singh has already been given the chance to represent India.

Igor Stimac has asserted that the inclusion of Indian origin players from foreign countries in the Indian football setup can help the country on the international stage. There are quite a few players of Indian descent playing abroad but government regulations do not allow them to play for India.

According to a TOI report, footballer Omid Singh is yet to decide to give up his Iranian passport to obtain an Indian one to be eligible to play for India. A senior AIFF official has also said that the federation will help Omid out in obtaining an Indian passport as per his decision.
