After huge success in the Commonwealth Games 2022, women’s cricket will return to action in the 2026 edition to be held in Australia. Cricket was re-included in the Commonwealth Games program this year after the Kuala Lumpur Games of 1998 and Australia were the gold medalists in this discipline.

Meg Lanning, Australia's women's team captain, is hoping the upcoming Commonwealth Games, to be played in Birmingham, will provide a platform for cricket to eventually be played at the Olympics. Lanning believes cricket in the Olympics would help the sport to grow more by reaching a new audience.

Women’s T20 took a step closer to being a part of the 2022 Commonwealth Games after being nominated for inclusion. If formally consented by the CGF, the ICC and ECB believe that this would be a huge step in the development of the game beyond its traditional bases, especially for women’s cricket.
